If I had to choose between my wife and my putter... well, I’d miss her.
Our world
You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and strange language but to the house of Israel – not to many peoples of obscure speech and strange language whose words you cannot understand. Ezekiel 3:5,6I love sport. The world of sport is my world. I speak the language of sport – well the language of some sports. American sports remain “obscure speech and strange language” for me.
What I think these verses say to us is that God has called us – people who love and know sport – to serve him in the world of sport.
Music does nothing for me. I never listed to music I don’t read about music. For me to try to reach the world of music for Christ would be very difficult. I would have to learn the language, learn to appreciate the nuances of music. It would not be easy.
The verses give me encouragement that we need never feel guilty about loving sport. We should never worry about putting time and energy into playing, coaching, organizing sport – even watching. Let us just be intentional about it. Let us see sport as part of out Christian life. Let us pray for the people whose sub-culture we share and whose language we understand. Let’s represent Jesus Christ in the part of the world of sport where we feel at home.
